Doctors call for Yulia Tymoshenko’s release and treatment abroad
Leading Ukrainian doctors have appealed to Viktor Yanukovych to release former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko from prison and allow her to undergo treatment abroad, according to the official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
"We ask that you make the decision to release former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who has serious health problems and needs full treatment, allow her to obtain proper treatment abroad, and ensure her complete legal and political rehabilitation," the appeal said.
The doctors stated that Yulia Tymoshenko has not received proper medical care from the onset of her illness, causing it to become chronic and threatening to leave her disabled. "Right now Yulia Tymoshenko needs modern treatment methods available abroad. Foreign doctors have repeatedly expressed their readiness to accept the ex-premier for treatment abroad, in particular the Charité hospital in Germany, which would be beneficial and correct," the Ukrainian doctors stressed.
The appeal was signed by leading Ukrainian neurosurgeon, former Minister of Health, MD, Professor Mykola Polishchuk, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, MD, Professor Olha Bohomolets, State Secretary of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in 2001-2002 Serhiy Shevchuk, Director of the Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academic of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Serhiy Komisarenko, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Minister of Health of Ukraine in 2007-2010, PhD Vasyl Knyazevych and others.
Similar requests were made by the public in the Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Odesa and Poltava oblasts.
