EU Ambassador Jan Tombinski waits for an official statement from the State penitentiary service of Ukraine concerning a date of visit of ex Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko.

Jan Tombinski hopes permission will be given soon

According to an UNIAN correspondent, J. Tombinski said this at press conference on Monday.

“We are expecting an official message from the State penitentiary service. As of now the State penitentiary service told us that this visit is possible after weekends. It seems to me that now weekends came to an end, but I hope that in this case they did not mean summer vacations”, said J. Tombinski.

Answering question how not releasing of Tymoshenko can influence signing of agreement on association between Ukraine and EU, J. Tombinski said: “We all know that an issue of selective justice and imprisonment of Tymoshenko is a stumbling block in issues concerning signing of agreement on association. The Summit of Eastern partnership in Vilnius is planned on November, however it will not be very good to wait to the last in making corresponding decisions in such considerable issue as imprisonment of Yulia Tymoshenko. Solving of this issue is in hands of the Ukrainian authorities, but not in hands of the European Union or European authorities”, - said J. Tombinski.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on April 26 it became known that EU Ambassador Jan Tombinski and U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine John Tefft would not be able to visit ex Prime Minister of Ukraine Yu. Tymoshenko on April 29 , because the State penitentiary service carried over their visit for later term.
