U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) has urged the Ukrainian government to release former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in light of the recent decision of the European Court of Human Rights from April 30, 2013, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"I urge Ukraine to answer the call of the European Court of Human Rights and release Ms. Tymoshenko from prison. This will demonstrate to the world Ukraine’s commitment to democracy and the right to disagree with the government without fear of imprisonment," Rob Portman said.

On June 25, the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee adopted a resolution introduced by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and cosponsored by four other Senators, including Rob Portman, calling on the Ukrainian authorities to release former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on the basis of the European Court of Human Rights decision in her case.
