President of the Ukrainian Wold Congress (UWC) Eugene Czolij has written to the leaders of the European Union, as well as the European Union's envoys former European Parliament President Pat Cox and former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski, urging them to offer the Ukrainian government a way to resolve the case of Yulia Tymoshenko, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

In this letter, Eugene Czolij said that during their meeting on August 27 2013, President Viktor Yanukovych stated that the political will was there to meet the requirements of the European Union concerning the case of Yulia Tymoshenko but that "Ukrainian legislation did not provide for any mechanism to accomplish this."

In response, Eugene Czolij expressed the opinion that Viktor Yanukovych could use his presidential powers to resolve this issue, to which the Ukrainian president answered that these powers aren't broad enough.

"Notwithstanding our difference of opinion concerning the availability of mechanisms to resolve this important matter, I informed the President of Ukraine that the UWC would contacct the EU, including the Cox-Kwasniewski mission, to request that you recommend a solution that is available under Ukrainian legislation to satisfy the EU requirements regarding Yulia Tymoshenko, so that the strategically important EU-Ukraine Association Agreement can be signed at the Third Summit of the Eastern Partnership member countries to be held in Vilnius on 28-29 November 2013," Eugene Czolij stated.
