Eugenia Tymoshenko met today with German MP and Vice President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Karl Lamers (CDU) to discuss the political situation in Ukraine, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

Yulia Tymoshenko’s daughter informed him of her mother’s position on peaceful solutions to the current situation.

Hryhoriy Nemyria, the deputy head of the Batkivshchyna party and chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on European Integration, also attended the meeting.

Karl Lamers condemned the use of force against pro-European protesters on Independence Square in Kyiv, the recent beating of EuroMaidan activist and well known journalist Tetyana Chornovol, and urged the government to conduct impartial investigations of these crimes. "These things are unacceptable. The persons involved should be held accountable according to Ukrainian law," he said.

The vice president of the NATO PA was also outraged that he was denied a visit with Yulia Tymoshenkо and said that he will make another request to the Ukrainian authorities.

They also said the "German side will continue to insist on the immediate release of Yulia Tymoshenko and her treatment abroad."

Karl Lamers expressed support and solidarity with Yulia Tymoshenko, the pro-European protesters and all the Ukrainian people fighting for democracy.

The Bundestag MP invited Eugenia Tymoshenko and Hryhoriy Nemyria to visit Germany in January to meet with German politicians and representatives of civil society organizations.
