Nuland calls authorities of Ukraine to release Tymoshenko
Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the United States Department of State Victoria Nuland called the authorities of Ukraine to release ex Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko.
“We keep on calling the authorities of Ukraine to release Yulia Tymoshenko and send her to Germany for a medical treatment that she needs”, said Nuland, delivering a speech at the sitting of United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations dedicated to Ukraine, the press service of the Batkivshchyna All-Ukrainian Union disclosed this to UNIAN.
According to her words, it would indicate adhesion of Ukraine to the European values and its strategic course to the European integration. “But it seems like the President is not able to take these steps today”, summed up Nuland.
“If Yanukovych wanted he would release Tymoshenko easily”, - American political scientist and former United States National Security Advisor to the President Zbigniew Brzezinski said.
“He could simply send Tymoshenko out and solve a part of problems. But he does not have imagination or determination for that. He fears that she will come back and take part in election. He is afraid of possible loss of power”, said Brzezinski.
