Having initialed the Association Agreement with the European Union, the Ukrainian government undertook international obligations that it violates right now by voting in the Verkhovna Rada on the laws that restricts fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens of Ukraine.

According to an own UNIAN correspondent in Brussels, spokesman for European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle Peter Stano said this at press conference for journalists.

“Commissioner Füle is deeply concerned about yesterday’s events in the Verkhovna Rada concerning the legislation that violates democratic principles and restricts fundamental rights and freedoms of the Ukrainian citizens”, - said Stano.

“According to opinion of Füle, it contradicts to European aspirations of Ukraine and also contradicts to the obligations following from the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine that Ukrainian government undertook, having initialed the Association Agreement. We are deeply concerned about these changes in the legislation”, - added Stano.
