According to an UNIAN correspondent, the president announced his decision to appoint Nazarenko during a meeting with representatives of the authorities in Odessa region on Thursday.

Poroshenko said that the fact that Nazarenko had been awaraded the Order of the Red Star and that he was a veteran of the Soviet-Afghan War was encouraging, and brought hope for a peaceful future.

The president added that he would sign the corresponding document on Nazarenko’s appointment today.

As UNIAN reported earlier, 45% of Ukrainians want to see the country’s border with Russia closed.
