Ukraine at the meeting of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly voted against the draft resolution of the Russian Federation on the glorification of the Stalinist regime.

That's according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

"Ukraine voted against yet another next draft resolution 'Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance,' which Russia traditionally submitted for consideration in the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly," reads the statement.

Ukrainian diplomats noted that members of the anti-Hitler coalition are not ready to support Russia's draft, including all EU member states and an absolute majority of European countries.

"The text of the draft resolution also ignores the fact that the end of the Second World War never became the final victory over totalitarian ideologies, and one of its results was, on the contrary, the enslavement of individual European nations and the strengthening of the communist totalitarian regime, which is responsible for numerous mass crimes, including genocides, deportations, repressions," the statement emphasizes.

Also, it is noted that today's Russia in every possible way tries to justify the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, which untied the hands of the Nazi and communist regimes to implement their aggressive plans to split Europe to control its certain parts.

"The text of the resolution also lacks provisions on the Soviet mass terror, which, in addition to national and ethnic grounds, was carried out on the so-called class and social grounds, which resulted in the general labeling of people as 'public enemies,' which basically led to their physical destruction," said the statement.

In addition, Russia continues to stubbornly deny recognizing the Holodomor famine of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide of the Ukrainian people, as well as the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people of 1944 and other peoples.

"It's a shame, but this year the Russian side went even further and made an attempt to turn the UN General Assembly document into glorification of the communist and Soviet past, in particular the Stalinist regime, adding to the draft a provision on the protection of their symbols," the statement says.

Diplomats also say that "when the Kremlin with one hand submits to the UN General Assembly a resolution against glorification of Nazism, it also generously supports radical movements that profess the extreme ideologies of both the left and the right spectrum."

"A real confirmation of Moscow's commitment to fighting intolerance and racial discrimination should have been the end of aggression against Ukraine, the restoration of respect for international law and the bona fide recognition and condemnation of the crimes of the communist totalitarian regime. Therefore, we call on the authors of this annual document at the next session to discard all manipulative provisions with the purpose of ensuring the consensus adoption of the resolution by all UNGA member states and, above all, by those who made a decisive contribution to the overthrow of Hitler's and Soviet regimes," the foreign ministry concluded.
