ATO headquarters denies offensive against insurgents
Ukrainian soldiers are complying with the Minsk Memorandum and Protocol and maintaining their defensive positions, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) said in a post on Facebook on Thursday.
The headquarters was responding to claims made earlier by pro-Russian militants that Ukrainian forces had launched an offensive against the insurgent-held parts of Ukraine's Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
"We have been steadfastly following the Minsk Memorandum and Protocol, staying on certain lines, at fortifications and observation points," the press center said.
"We are not doing anything to escalate the situation in the conflict zone," read the report.
"As we reported earlier, the insurgents have repainted their military vehicles in the Ukrainian army colors and put identification markings similar to symbols of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on their military equipment and weapons,” the headquarters said.
“Because of this, we could see possible provocations by the illegal armed groups aimed at discrediting the ATO forces."
