Poltorak: ‘Ceasefire mechanism’ to be worked out soon
Negotiating groups are working on ways to ensure the ceasefire declared by the Minsk Protocol peace agreement can finally be put into effect, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said at the National University of Defense on Thursday.
He did not say who is participating in the negotiating groups.
"It is not about who is negotiating - generals or politicians - the key issue is peace,” he said.
“Such a group has been formed. It is functioning in accordance with the president’s instructions to achieve the goal of ensuring the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Unfortunately, they are not observed by the insurgents. Therefore, the negotiating group is elaborating mechanisms for the Minsk arrangements to be complied with. I hope this will happen in the near future.”
