At the official presentation, journalists were shown the document’s security features, which include watermarks and electronic chips.
The company said it was ready to start printing biometric passports from January 1, 2015.
"The production of a biometric passport consists of its manufacturing and the personalization of the passport’s form for a specific person (photos, text, chip)," the company said.
"We used historical themes in the design of a passport. The pages of the document have covered all stages of Ukrainian life since the Tripoli culture," the press service said.
The enterprise said that the passport’s security protection features were of the highest level.
"This question was carefully discussed, starting from the choice of paper. It was designed by the NBU’s factory of banknote paper. A paper for biometric passports has yellow-blue fibers with a fixed multi-tone watermark," the company said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian biometric passport will be much cheaper than the foreign ones, costing only about EUR 15.
According to employees of the enterprise, the company can produce about 400,000 passports per month, and the personalization center can produce about 200,000 passports per month.
