"Over the last day, we have lost two Ukrainian soldiers, while another five were injured as a result of military clashes," he said.
Earlier, Russian-backed insurgents and mercenaries directed heavy fire at the village of Pisky and the old terminal building of the Donetsk airport, Ukraine’s Hromadske.TV channel reported, with reference to a source in Pisky.
"Some of the defenders of the airport have been killed, many of them wounded, but their exact number is unknown. The body of a soldier still remains in the old terminal building," the channel reported.
Later on Friday the NSDC said on Twitter that Ukrainian troops had resumed their positions in the old terminal building.
“Donetsk airport is under control of UA Armed forces. Troops left old terminal temporary, during artillery shelling, to avoid losses,” the NSDC tweeted.
