Poroshenko: Ukraine appreciates support from Croatian football players Vida and Vukojevic
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says Ukraine appreciates support from Croatian football players Domagoj Vida and Ognjen Vukojevic.
"The Croats know more than anyone else what support in hard times, amid the struggle means. The more valuable are the words of support from Domagoj and Ognjen," the Ukrainian president wrote on Facebook on Wednesday evening.
"Ukraine appreciates this support, and, of course, is also ready to support the real friends," he added.
He noted that relations between Ukrainians and Croats are a centuries-long history.
As was earlier reported, following Croatia's win over Russia in World Cup quarterfinals in the Russian city of Sochi, Croatian defender Domagoj Vida and ex-national team member Ognjen Vukojevic, who was working at the national team's headquarters, released the video with the slogan "Glory to Ukraine!" Both are ex-Dynamo Kyiv players.
FIFA later issued a warning to Vida, while Vukojevic was banned from a Croatian team, denied accreditation, and fined EUR 12,800.
