Ukraine marks National Flag Day Aug 23 (Video)
The blue and yellow banner got the status of the official flag of Ukraine on September 18, 1991.
Since that day, it has been welcoming foreign guests, servicemen take oath before it, while embassies of Ukraine fly the flag across the world.
On August 23, the official ceremony of raising the national flag is held across the country.
The blue and yellow banner is raised at house fronts, at enterprises, state institutions, and organizations.
Many Ukrainian soldiers died in battles for the national flag.

The longest, 110m-long and 5m-wide flag of Ukraine was raised on the Hoverla Mountain.
The biggest, 15,000 square meter-flag of Ukraine made from flowers was unveiled in the Pyrohiv museum near Kyiv in 2016.
The world's largest state flag of Ukraine was unfurled in the town of Pokrovsk in Donetsk region, with a weight of 120 kg and an area of 2,400 square meters.
The biggest moving flag was created in Cherkasy. Over 500 cyclists took part in a blue-and-yellow chain.
