Over last day militants use heavy weapons against Ukrainian forces
Militants in eastern Ukraine have again violated the shaky ceasefire in the Donbas conflict zone, using heavy weapons against Ukrainian positions, National Security and Defense Council spokesman Andriy Lysenko said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.
"In recent days the situation in ATO area has not changed,” Lysenko said.
“There were reported cases of heavy weapons being used by the militants. At the same time, according to the latest information, the night in the area of ATO was quiet after midnight, and there were not any attacks on the positions of our military.”
Lysenko said that, according to current information, the militants are building up their forces, and are deploying new units along the demarcation line in the region of Donetsk, Debaltsevo, Pervomaisk, Stakhanov and Severodonetsk.
"According to intelligence reports, there is a rotation as well as the arrival of new units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Donetsk and other towns. Some of them are dressed as Dontesk People’s Republic fighters.”
Ukraine unilaterally declared a ceasefire on December 9, but the militants have violated the ceasefire on a daily basis since then.
