Ukraine to create new border guard squad on border with Russia
The Cabinet of Ministers, Ukraine's government, has approved the creation of a budget institution "Shostka Border Squad of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (military unit No. 1569)."
The decision was adopted without debates at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, October 10, an UNIAN correspondent reported.
The squad, according to its name, will operate in Sumy region, Ukraine's northeast.
UNIAN memo. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is an independent law enforcement agency of special assignment, its chief is subordinate to the President of Ukraine. The agency was created on July 31, 2003, after the reorganization of the State Committee in Affairs for Protection the State Border. During wartime, units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine are under the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine comprises the Ukrainian Sea Guard (the country's coast guard) in addition to the Ground Forces and the aerial support unit. Its chief is now Petro Tsyhykal, who was appointed in 2017.
