The Ecumenical Patriarchate is preparing to announce a decision regarding the autocephaly of the Ukrainian church.

As of now, the meeting of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate has completed. The decision on the Ukrainian issue will be announced tomorrow, October 11, a TSN report says.

“Tomorrow there will be a decision on the Ukrainian issue and tomorrow there will be an official press release on the topic,” journalists said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on October 9, a meeting of the Synod of the Constantinople Patriarchate began in Istanbul, which was set to approve a tomos on autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The three-day meeting was held behind closed doors, while its agenda was never officially announced.

UNIAN memo. On April 17, at a meeting with leaders of parliamentary factions, President Petro Poroshenko announced that he and the hierarchs of the UOC-KP and the UAOC decided to formally appeal to the ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I with a request for autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine and ask the parliament to support the appeal.

On April 19, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution supporting the president’s appeal, which was adopted on April 22, to the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

On September 3, Poroshenko said that the Ecumenical Patriarchate decided to give independent states the right to create a local church without taking into account the position of Moscow.
