Militants attack Ukrainian forces about 900 times during latest ‘ceasefire’
There have been 877 attacks on Ukrainian army positions by Russian-backed insurgents in eastern Ukraine since the beginning of the latest ceasefire on December 9, 2014, Acting Speaker of the General Staff of Ukraine Vladyslav Selezniov said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
"Starting on the morning of December 9, 2014, Ukrainian armed forces began to implement a peace plan for a bilateral ceasefire, with the implementation of measures to stop the use of all weapons," he said.
"Russian-backed insurgents have fired on Ukrainian army positions 877 times since the beginning of the latest ceasefire on December 9," Selezniov said.
"In turn, Ukrainian soldiers comply with the requirements of the Minsk Protocol and deter enemy aggression and ensure the safety of peaceful citizens of Ukraine who live in the east."
"The Ukrainian military strike blows only in response to militant attacks, thereby suppressing enemy firing points," Selezniov added.
