According to their preliminary investigations, the city’s police declared the incident as an act of sabotage.
Guards at the gas facilitiy noticed broken glass and half-meter-wide hole in the wall of a technical building only this morning. No one is being allowed to enter the company's premises at the moment.
Company representatives believe that the attackers were targeting tanks with liquefied fuel. However, the shell hit the technical construction and exploded. A bomb-disposal squad has recovered the shell.
If the saboteurs had managed to hit the tanks with gas, they could have exploded, and the consequences would have been serious, company representatives said.
"Criminal proceedings have been launched," said the spokeswoman from Kharkiv region prosecutor's office, Vita Dubovik.
“All possibilities will be considered, whether it is related to business interests, or whether it was another attempt to intimidate the residents of Kharkiv. All these theories will be examined in the process of the investigation.”
