"The centralized water supply to the towns of Toretsk and Zalizne, as well as the villages of Pivnichne and Pivdenne, has now been stopped. As of 06:00 on December 17, some 42,813 people had no centralized water supply," the State Emergencies Service's press service said.

According to the agency, there is a 10,000-m3 reservoir of drinking water in Toretsk, which now contains 2,500 m3 of drinking water. At the same time, the minimum water level in the reservoir for intake by pumps is 1,000 m3.

"If necessary, water will be supplied to households from the reservoir every hour. In case of lack of water in the reservoir, water trucking will be arranged," the agency said.

Causes behind the increase in water losses are to be established today.
