President Victor Yushchenko met today with Minister of Defense Yuriy Yekhanurov, according to the President`s press-office.
During the meeting parties discussed implementation of President’s Decree of March 4, 2008 On urgent measures as to ensuring Ukrainian Military Forces development first of all in the part of Cabinet of Ministers providing financing increase by 7,5 million hryvnyas in 2008 budget. “Unfortunately modifications to 2008 budget regarding that have not yet been introduced”, - said Yuriy Yekhanurov.
Defense Minister reported to President on measures taken in order to ensure social protection of the military men serving by contract. He also informed Victor Yushchenko about the results of the work of Inspection commission on examination of combat and mobilization readiness of the Ukrainian military.
Separate attention was paid during the meeting to discussing the question of providing servicemen with housing. As Y. Yekhanurov noted, in the first quarter of this year the military men were provided with more apartments than they had been in whole 2007 year.
