The State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine has said over 300 citizens of the Russian Federation are held in Ukrainian pretrial detention centers and penal colonies.

In particular, 130 Russians were held in pretrial detention centers and 206 in penal colonies as of September 1, 2019, according to the Radio Liberty's Ukrainian service.

In total, 755 people are held in Ukrainian pretrial detention centers, while another 499 people are serving sentences in prisons.

On October 2, the penitentiary service said over 50,000 people were held in Ukrainian prisons and pretrial detention centers.

Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova said on September 10 that 113 Ukrainians, including 89 Crimean Tatars, were held in Russia.
