Former Ukrainian legislator Ihor Kononenko has refuted reports of his alleged detention by detectives of the National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) at Ukraine's Boryspil International AirportThursday.
"Nobody detained me," he told the Ukrainian news outlet LIGA.net on Oct 18.
"[I'll be] back on [October] 28 as I want to sign an agreement on cooperation with the Chinese Tennis Federation," he added.
According to Kononenko, he is in Istanbul now, planning to l fly to the city of Chengdu in China to visit a tennis tournament, in which a student from his tennis academy, Daria Snigur, will participate.
On October 17, Ukrainian journalist Serhiy Leshchenko reported that Kononenko was stopped at the airport’s border control to determine his current status since Kononenko is allegedly in the focus of various criminal proceedings.
Kononenko later told the Ukrainian online newspaper Ukrayinska Pravda that he was stopped at the request of NABU.
