The Patriarchate of Alexandria has joined the churches that have recognized autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, according to deputy head of the OCU's external relations department Evstratiy (Zorya).
Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and all Africa during the liturgy has mentioned the name of Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine as Primate of the OCU.
Epifaniy added that the information was confirmed by two informed sources, as well as a video footage of the service posted on social networks.
An official announcement is yet to come, he noted.
"Thus, the Patriarchate of Alexandria joined the churches recognizing the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The Alexandria Church in dyptichs ranks second after the Ecumenical Patriarchate," the archbishop emphasized.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on December 15, 2018, the Unification Council of Ukrainian Orthodox Churches elected Metropolitan Epifaniy primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
On January 6, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew handed Epifaniy a Tomos on granting autocephaly to the OCU.
