Ukraine to finish gas talks with Russia by autumn – Turchynov
"For the first time, they speak with Ukraine not from a strong-arm position..."
Top Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksander Turchynov expects that the talks with the Russian Federation on conditions of natural gas supplies to Ukraine in 2009 will be finished by autumn.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, O.Turchynov claimed this to a press conference in the Cabinet of Ministers today.
“I hope we will receive the approximate figures for the next year by end of June. In any case, I’m convinced, it is better to complete gas talks in summer, and not to drag them out to January 1”, O.Turchynov noted.
According to him, Ukraine keeps on consultations with the Russian side on gas issues.
“The most important is that for the first time, they speak with Ukraine not from a strong-arm position. We are ready to mutually beneficial relations, to relations without intermediaries and direct contracts. Besides, the prices on natural gas supplies and transit must be linked to each other”, O.Turchynov believes.
