Defense Minister of Ukraine Yuri Yekhanurov hopes that the Russian Federation leadership will not consider advices of the RF State Duma about terminating the bilateral Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, he claimed this to a press conference in Tbilisi today.

“Ukraine has its own national interests, and we will act in line with it. And the Duma, I hope, will recall the close relations between our nations and between the two economics, which will, nevertheless, prevent them from making such statements in future”, Yuri Yekhanurov said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, The Russian parliament issued a statement on Wednesday saying that Ukraine`s accession to NATO would unilaterally terminate a friendship treaty with Russia. The State Duma, the lower house of parliament, adopted the statement to bring to the attention of the country`s leadership Ukraine`s `unfriendly` policies. The treaty in question is the bilateral Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership, signed in 1997.
