The government forecasts a significant fall of inflation rates in June, and expects that on the results of the year, the inflation will not exceed the last-year showing of 16.6%.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, Economics Minister of Ukraine Bohdan Danylyshyn claimed this to a press conference in Kyiv today.

He stressed that the government expects for a significant fall of the inflation during the summer. “Due to the purposeful anti-inflation measures, the government, together with the National Bank of Ukraine, expects for a significant fall of the inflation in June, July, and August. I think, by the end of the year, we will achieve showings less than that in 2007”, B.Danylyshyn said.

At the same time, the Minister stressed he does not like to forecast inflation, because such forecasts are often used for political speculations not only in Ukraine, but also in other post-Soviet countries, which negatively influences inflation processes.

B.Danylyshyn stressed that the government and the National Bank of Ukraine successfully curbed inflation in May.

At the same time, he added, the government is not satisfied with the activities of the Anti-Monopoly Committee in the sphere of struggle against inflation.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation rates in Ukraine in May of 2008 made up 1.3% compared to April of 2008; and 31.1% compared to May of 2007.
