UGA forecasts grain harvest in Ukraine in 2006

Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) joining grain trading companies of the country forecast grain harvest in the current year at the level of 36 mln tones, according to APK-Inform.

The President of Association, Vladimir Klimenko, also informed that there is a problem with wheat damage by corn bug.

He stressed that grain which damage exceeded 2% cannot be used in food purposes. But according to the State standards it is considered to be bread grain.

According to the forecasts of Ukrainian agrarian conference in 2006 Ukraine will harvest 36.5 mln tonnes of grain.

Ministry of Agrarian Policy estimates grain crop in the current season at 40 mln tonnes.

In 2005 Ukraine harvested 38.02 mln tonnes.
