On July 28 Ukraine to mark Day of Orthodox Baptism of Kyiv Rus

President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko has signed  a decree on establishing the Day of the Orthodox Baptism of Kyiv Rus.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, in line with the decree, this holiday will be celebrated annually on July 28, on the day of memory of Saint Prince Volodymyr, who baptized the Kyiv Rus.

The decision was made taking into account the importance of Orthodox tradition in the history and development of the Ukrainian society, and in support of the initiative of the National Council for Culture and Spirituality, the Ukrainian Culture Fund, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchy, the Ukrainian Aftokefal orthodox Church, and the society.
