Agricultural Minister of Russia Alexey Gordeyev believes Ukraine and Russia should collaborate closer in the agricultural sphere, and, in particular, Russia should replace the import of some items of agricultural products from other countries with the import from Ukraine.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, A.Gordeyev claimed this to a press conference within frames of “All-Ukrainian Field Day-2008” in Mayske village of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

“Speaking about traditional products historically supplied to Russia by Ukraine – this potential should be resumed, with replacing the import from distant foreign lands. For instance, it is sugar, forage, we may speak even about meat – as of today, we import more than million tons of poultry meat, and practically nothing is imported from Ukraine. Probably, it would much more efficient to develop such supplies, considering the perspective of our relations with Ukraine”, the Minister said.
