Peacemaking contingent in Georgia should be reformatted - Ukraine
Ukraine ready to send its peacekeepers?
Ukraine speaks for reformatting the peacemaking contingent in Georgia.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, Kostyantyn Yeliseyev, special envoy of the Ukrainian President to Georgia and deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, said this to a news conference on Wednesday.
“In order to guarantee security of the region we stress the necessity of compulsory reformatting the existing peacemaking mechanism by means of making it international under the aegis of OSCE”, K.Yeliseyev said.
He noted that Ukraine is ready to make its contribution into the peacemaking forces to achieve a permanent and thorough settlement of the conflict in Georgia.
Asked whether Ukraine is ready to send its peacemaking contingent to Georgia, K.Yeliseyev said: “Let’s not run ahead. First of all, the matter concerns such the basic things as the cease of fire and any military actions”.
After that, according to K.Yeliseyev, a new stage will kick off. It will involve talks on the future international presence in this region. “As soon as the proper format is found, Ukraine will be ready to consider its participation”, he said.
