Grain exports in 2008/09 MY are expected to reach 17.5 mln tonnes, as opposed to 3.7 mln tonnes in the previous MY, according to the Ukrainian Grain Association, according to APK-Inform.

Ukraine predicts exporting nearly 17.5 mln tonnes of grain, along with 2 mln tonnes of rapeseed. However, only coordinated work among ports, railway and other transport services will allow for such large volumes of export, said Vladimir Klimenko, the President of the Ukrainian Grain Association.

According to V.Klimenko, Ukraine will export 7-8 mln tonnes of wheat, 5-6 mln tonnes of barley and nearly 3.5 mln tonnes of maize.

Such export volumes should prevent the fall of grain prices. This marketing year, believed to be the best export year the country has had, all export mechanisms will be required to operate well to accommodate shipments. Previous export records for Ukraine were a high of 13.2 mln tonnes of grain, V.Klimenko said.

The Ministry of Agriculture Policy forecasts grain exports to reach 17.513 mln tonnes, up 4.7 times compared to the previous MY.
