Prominent Russian asks for asylum in Ukraine
A prominent Russian public figure and writer has appealed to the Chernihiv unit's border guards, while crossing the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, to grant him refugee status in Ukraine due to political persecution in Russia, the press service of Ukraine's State Border Guard Service reported, without identifying the Russian.
"The Russian citizen is a well-known writer and public figure who has been involved in protest activities against Putin's political regime in Russia," the press service's statement read.
Currently, the Ukrainian migration service is handling the request for asylum.
As UNIAN reported earlier, in June a Russian citizen, who is a native of Dagestan, when crossing the state border with Belarus asked for refugee status in Ukraine because of religious persecution in Russia.
