Cherkassy weekly journalists sacked for political reasons

The question to Tymoshenko was the last drop

The collective of Molod Cherkashchyny weekly claims that all employees of the newspaper were sacked due to political reasons.

Newspaper’s editor-in-chief Yulia Sakun and journalist Tetyana Lymarenko claimed this to a press conference in UNIAN on Monday.

“The newspaper’s owner, Cherkassy Oblast governor Oleksander Cherevko, informed the editorial collective that all employees are sacked, and the next issue of the newspaper will be prepared by other people”, Yu.Sakun said.

According to her, the governor used to order not to publish in the weekly any other political points of view but that of Our Ukraine party. “The last drop was the question of our journalist Tetyana Lymarenko to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. The journalist asked whether the Cherkassy governor’s criticism of the draft state budget-2009 was biased”, she specified.

In her turn, T.Lymarenko confirmed that after the press conference of Yulia Tymoshenko, she received a phone call from a governor’s representative who asked her to specify the question that she asked to Yulia Tymoshenko.

“We have different mass media in our region – communal, state, private. But none of them criticizes the governor!”, Yu.Sakun stressed.

The journalists claimed that they made decision to found a new newspaper called “New Molod Cherkashchyny”, and will turn for help to President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
