Guillaume Depardieu, 37, the often-troubled son of renowned French film star Gerard Depardieu, who gained praise for his own career as an actor, died yesterday, hospital officials said, AP reported.

Guillaume Depardieu died in a hospital near Paris from complications of a sudden case of pneumonia, the Paris area hospitals authority said.

While he appeared with his father in the 1991 movie Tous les Matins du Monde (All the Mornings of the World), his first acclaimed role was in Les Apprentis (The Apprentices)

As a teenager and young adult, he faced problems with drugs, alcohol and violence that led to several convictions.
