Grain harvest-2006 is 11% down from the previous season

As of the first of September, Ukrainian harvest of grains and legumes (without maize) totaled 28.23 mln tonnes in bunker weight, down 11% from the previous year index, informed State Statistics Committee, according to APK-Inform.

      Harvesting area totaled 11.7 mln ha (against 12.3 mln ha in 2005). The average yield decreased by 0.15 tonnes per hectare - to 2.42 tonnes per hectare.

      It should be mentioned that according to the forecasts of the Cabinet of Ministers, gross grain yield will be 38 mln tonnes in 2006 in Ukraine (including maize). In 2005 this index totaled 38.02 mln tonnes.
