Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko will submit to no outside pressure in deciding whether to keep the head of the central bank in his job, the presidential chief of staff said on Friday, according to Reuters.

The statement was posted on the presidential website a day after Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, the president`s arch rival, called for the dismissal of central bank chairman Volodymyr Stelmakh.

"... The president will take a decision on whether V. Stelmakh is to remain in his job as head of the central bank without any outside pressure," chief of staff Viktor Baloga said. "This issue must not become a destructive factor preventing a normalisation of the economic situation."
