The most positive achievement of Ukraine in the year 2008 was its joining the World Trade Organization.
This is the result of an experts opinion poll carried out by PRT Communication Group and forwarded to UNIAN.
In particular, within frames of the poll, more than 100 experts determined the Top-10 of the most positive and negative “records” of Ukraine in 2008.
According to experts, the most negative “achievement” was the reduction of the Ukrainian population to almost 46 million people.
In the opinion of experts, among the achievements of Ukraine in 2008, there are outstanding victories of our sportsmen, introduction of uncompromising fines for traffic rules violations, and the refusal of politicians to carry out a snap parliamentary poll. Besides, the highest birth rate over the last years was recorded in Ukraine namely in the year 2008. Among other positives are the highest levels of car and consumer goods sales indexes compared to several previous years.
Speaking about negative phenomena, the experts mentioned a significant reduction of the gross domestic product due to a collapse of a whole range of strategic branches, the highest death rate over the last years at Ukrainian roads, a collapse of the hryvnia’s value in December, a devastating flood in the western region, and a late response of Ukrainian authorities to the world financial crisis.
