Days of Polish Film have been inaugurated in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv with Krzysztof Zanussi`s Polish-Ukrainian feature A Warm Heart, according to Polskie Radio.

In addition to a cross-section of recent Polish films, the programme of the event includes a retrospective of the film output by Zanussi, who is the honorary guest of the festival.

After the screening of A Warm Heart, the Ukrainian minister for culture Vasil Vovkun informed that President Victor Juschenko signed a decree on decorating Zanussi with the Order of Jaroslav the Wise, one of Ukraine’s highest state distinctions.

In an interview for the Polish Press Agency, Zanussi said his plans for future projects include a film about the Great Famine in Ukraine in 1932-33. “In Katyn, Andrzej Wajda showed to the West what it seemed to forget. In my film I would like to recall the Great Famine about which the West did not even wish to hear,” Zanussi said.
