Ukraine’s Svitolina rockets to 3rd spot in WTA ranking, sets national record
A 22-year-old Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina following her participation in the U.S. Open for the first time in her career and for the first time in the history of Ukrainian tennis is ranked third WTA ranking, that’s according to the organization’s website.
The best achievement among Ukrainian tennis players was Andriy Medvedev’s 4th spot in 1994.
This season, Svitolina won five tournaments (Taiwan, Dubai, Istanbul, Rome, and Toronto), three of which were of Premier 5 category (Dubai, Rome, and Toronto).
In Grand Slam tournaments, Elina has for the first time made it to 1/8 finals at Wimbledon and U.S. Open, and also made it to the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

Another Ukrainian, Katerina Kozlova, who won the tournament in China on Sunday, went up 35 positions, to 83rd spot, updating her personal record.
Lesia Tsurenko, on the contrary, dropped 9 spots, to 39th position.
