Kyivvodokanal OJSC does not rule out that the water supply in Kyiv may become schedule-based. Company director Yaroslav Filatov said this to a news conference in UNIAN.

“In two weeks the water supply may based on a schedule”, he stressed. According to Ya.Filatov, Kyivvodokanal is facing a catastrophic situation because of critical under-funding and lack of a rational tariff structure.

At the same time, he added, the company’s networks are outdated and the number of accidents in the city is growing.

“The company`s current electricity debt is 573 million hryvnias. On the other hand, the capital`s debt to Kyivvodokanal is 570 million hryvnias”, Ya.Filatov said, adding that Kyiv, being the city with the highest salaries in Ukraine, has the lowest water tariffs.

According to him, 4.70 hryvnias per a cubic meter of water would be an economically reasonable price. This figure was calculated by the Kyiv Price Inspection in January 2008.

Nearly 600 employees of Kyivvodokanal held a protest action near the Kyiv City Council demanding increased tariffs on Thursday.
