The Council of Europe organizes a workshop in Ukraine for protection of gender equality in the legislation and practice, according to a CE press-release, forwarded to UNIAN. The workshop will take place in Donetsk on April 28-29, within the framework of the Joint Project with the European Union on strengthening and protecting women`s and children`s rights in Ukraine (TRES Project).

The workshop on the protection of gender equality in the legislation and practice aims at discussing in particular international standards and practical instruments for implementing gender equality. Special attention will be paid to a human rights approach to gender equality and to domestic violence as an element of practical dimension of equality between women and men. The workshop should contribute to the increase of knowledge by public officials of the European Social Charter (revised) and other international standards with regard to gender equality, as well as to inform them about best practices in gender equality implementation. The conclusions of the workshop should contribute to identify to what extent national legislation and practice need to be adjusted to meet European standards.

Civil servants from Donetsk and Lugansk regions will attend the workshop, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sport, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Defence and non-governmental organisations.
