At least seven people have been killed on their way to church following a road accident involving a minibus, authorities in Western Ukraine said, Press TV reported.

Sunday`s deadly collision occurred when a truck slammed into a minibus carrying 24 Orthodox Christian pilgrims in the western province of Lviv.

A child was reportedly among those killed in the accident that left eight others injured, some in grave condition.

Reports suggested the lorry driver had veered into the minibus`s path at around 7 am (0400 GMT), after he fell asleep behind the wheel.

The churchgoers were on their way to visit a monastery in the village of Krekhiv.

Poor road conditions as well as lax road and traffic policing have made Ukraine`s road system among Europe`s most dangerous.
