Journalist Dmytro Komarov, who worked as special correspondent for Izvestia Ukraine daily, was beaten with a baseball bat in an attack that could be connected with his work.   The attack was committed Monday afternoon while driving in the western part of Kyiv.

According to the information of the newspaper’s editorial office, D.Komarov refused to give way to another car that had swerved into an oncoming lane. After that, the other car`s driver chased Komarov and forced him to pull over before breaking his car windows and hitting the journalist in with a baseball bat. D.Komarov managed to jump into his car and drive away.

According to head of the newspaper’s investigative desk Vyacheslav Stareychenko, lately D.Komarov wrote a series of articles concerning the life of prisoners in Ukrainian jails. The newspaper does not rule out that the attack could have been connected with journalist’s professional activities. At the same time, the journalist himself says it was merely an act of hooliganism.
