Gazprom says Ukraine not pumping gas into underground storage
Gazprom deputy CEO said Tuesday
Ukraine is currently not pumping Russian gas into its storage facilities to supply European markets next winter, Alexander Ananenkov, deputy chief executive of Russia`s state-controlled gas firm OAO Gazprom ( GAZP.RS), said Tuesday, Dow Jones reported.
"Ukraine isn`t pumping gas into its gas storage facilities in due amounts," Ananenkov said.
Gazprom supplies a quarter of Europe`s gas needs, of which 80% is shipped through Ukraine. Traditionally, Ukraine has stored gas in the western part of the country during the summer for export to Europe during the winter.
The country`s transit pipeline system doesn`t have the necessary capacity to meet European demand during the winter.
