President calls Jaap de Hoop Scheffer

Victor Yushchenko and NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer have spoken about Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations, according to the President`s press-office.

      The President reiterated that our course to join the European Union and NATO would not change. He said the country’s main political forces were now discussing when Ukraine would sign a NATO membership plan.

      Mr. Yushchenko invited Mr. Scheffer to visit Ukraine in 2007.

      He also said Ukraine would mark the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Charter on a Distinctive Partnership with NATO next year.
