A flu epidemic is spreading in Ukraine from the west and the east at the same time, according to Itar-Tass.

A number of Ukrainian regions report a high number of flu and respiratory viral infection cases, the Health Ministry’s press service told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

Schools will be closed in some western regions from Monday, February 5.

The epidemic beginning level is exceeded in miners` areas.

Medical specialists link the growing number of flu cases with the sharp temperature fall in the country and the epidemic process in the world.

More than 45,000 illness cases were reported over the past week. Children account for almost a half of them. The highest rates are in Zaporozhye and Kharkov.

No serious epidemic complications have been reported in the country.

The epidemic is expected to reach its peak in mid-February-early March.
