Victor Yushchenko has sent a letter to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych with a request to take measures to dub or subtitle foreign films for Ukrainian-speaking audiences, according to the President`s press-office.

“To promote the national language in Ukraine’s social life and to implement balanced language policies, I would like to ask you to take measures to bring the current procedures of distribution and demonstration of foreign films in Ukraine in line with the Law on Cinematography,” he said.

The President is worried the Kyiv Economic Court of Appeal cancelled paragraphs 2, 3 and 12 of item 2 of the January 16/2006 governmental resolution ensuring that the Law on Cinematography is observed. He believes the decision violates the rights of Ukrainian-speaking audiences.
