Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych stated Ukraine’s interestedness in advancing energy cooperation with Syria, according to the government’s press-office.

      “We are interested in extracting gas and oil fields, updating petroleum refineries, rehabilitating oil wells, repairing and building pipelines,” Viktor Yanukovych said the meeting with Minister of Finance of Syria Mohamad Al-Hussein noting at the same time that Ukraine and Syria entered the new stage of cooperation.

      On the whole, according to the Head of Ukrainian Government, the bipartite Ukrainian-Syrian relations are characterized by stable dynamics of commodity turnover increase since 2000.

      The Prime Minister of Ukraine expressed hoped that visit of the Minister of Finance of Syria would promote development of trade-economic cooperation emphasizing that the Ukrainian side would create all conditions for the development of bilateral relations.

      At that Viktor Yanukovych noted that this year parliamentary and presidential elections in Syria had demonstrated convincing victory that, in the PM’s opinion, testified stability in the country and would further the development of bipartite relations between Ukraine and Syria. “It is an evidence of stability of the domestic and foreign policy. And we hope that Syrian leadership will continue to place high emphasis on bipartite relations with Ukraine,” Viktor Yanukovych stressed.
